The Story

Michael B. Jordan

Michael B. Jordan is an American actor, director and producer best known for his roles in the Creed franchise, Black Panther and Fruitvale Station. He was born on 9 February 1987 in Santa Ana, California, and grew up in Newark, New Jersey.

Jordan began his career as a child model before moving into acting. Early television appearances included The Sopranos and Cosby, but one of his first significant roles came when he played Wallace in HBO's The Wire. He later appeared as quarterback Vince Howard in Friday Night Lights and Alex in Parenthood.

His transition into major movie roles accelerated when he starred as Oscar Grant in Fruitvale Station (2013), directed by Ryan Coogler. The acclaimed performance established Jordan as a leading dramatic actor and began a creative partnership with Coogler that would become an important part of his career.

For fighting-movie fans, Jordan became particularly significant when he took the role of Adonis "Donnie" Creed in Creed (2015). Playing the son of Rocky character Apollo Creed, Jordan starred alongside Sylvester Stallone and helped introduce the long-running boxing franchise to a new generation.

He returned for Creed II (2018), which brought Adonis face-to-face with Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago. Jordan then took an even larger role behind the camera with Creed III (2023), making his feature-film directorial debut while once again starring as Adonis Creed.

Outside the boxing franchise, Jordan achieved another major success as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther (2018). His other film credits include Chronicle (2012), Fantastic Four (2015), Just Mercy (2019) and Without Remorse (2021).

Jordan's portrayal of Adonis Creed has made him an important modern figure in boxing cinema. The Creed series blends the legacy of the Rocky movies with a new generation of characters, rivalries, and fights, while Jordan's move into directing has shown his growing influence behind the camera.

From acclaimed television dramas to blockbuster movies and the boxing ring of the Creed franchise, Michael B. Jordan has developed into one of the most recognisable actors of his generation.
