Born in Boston on June 5, 1971, Wahlberg first became widely known through music as Marky Mark, fronting Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Their debut album produced the number-one single “Good Vibrations,” but acting soon offered him a different path. Following his television debut in The Substitute, he moved to the big screen with Renaissance Man and drew attention opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Basketball Diaries. Fear gave him his first starring film role, while Boogie Nights showed that his combination of confidence and vulnerability could carry more demanding material.
