Joel Edgerton

Joel Edgerton is an Australian actor, filmmaker, writer, and director known for performances in action movies, dramas, and major Hollywood productions. He was born 23 June 1974 in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia, and began his acting career in Australian television and film before gaining international recognition.

Edgerton appeared in several Australian productions early in his career, including the television series The Secret Life of Us. His international profile grew when he played Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), a role he would later reprise in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

For fighting-movie audiences, one of Edgerton's defining performances came in Warrior (2011). He played Brendan Conlon, a former mixed martial arts fighter and schoolteacher who returns to competition to solve his family's financial problems. His journey ultimately puts him on a collision course with his estranged younger brother Tommy, played by Tom Hardy.

Warrior became one of the most acclaimed MMA dramas of its era, with Edgerton undergoing extensive physical training for the role. His portrayal of Brendan combined convincing fight sequences with the emotional story of a husband, father and brother fighting for something far more important than a championship.
